About Old Tappan, NJ Real Estate Market

A small borough located in Bergen County in New Jersey State, Old Tappan shares its boundaries with other boroughs like Pearl River, Tappan, Lake Tappan, Hackensack River and Harrington Park. The borough of Old Tappan covers an area of 4.16 square miles, while as many as 6,000 people are residents in this borough.

Old Tappan got affirmed as a borough under an act of the New Jersey Legislature in 1894. It is one of those 26 boroughs which were formed during the Boroughitis phenomenon that happened in Bergen County in the same year. Deriving its name from the Tappan tribe of Native Americans, Old Tappan has one of the only four confluence points in New Jersey, the 41-degree north and 74-degree west.

Old Tappan is a small town inhabited mostly by distant working professionals and retired people in small-sized homes across the small lanes of the town. There are four houses from the bygone era included in the National Register of Historic Places – Frederick Haring House, Teunis Haring House, Gerrit Haring House and Haring-DeWolf House. The town also has Old Tappan Golf Course located on DeWolf Road, one of the most prominent lanes, which has New Jersey houses. Other popular locations of the own include Stone Point Park, Oaks Park and Gallagher Field.
